Physiotherapy
CSC has many inpatients, some staying for several months. For example, correcting bilateral club feet with external frames requires daily treatment for several weeks or months, along with extensive physiotherapy. As many patients travel from far-flung provinces, CSC provides three free meals a day to every patient and their caretaker.
Our physiotherapy department is staffed by four physiotherapists, and operates in a part of the main building. The staff have received postgraduate training from overseas experts who frequently come with various visiting teams and help to update post-operative treatment.

According to the international foundation Smile Train, CSC performs the highest number of cleft surgeries in Cambodia. In the early years, CSC used to do more than 500 cleft repairs per year, but as the backlog of untreated patients has gradually been cleared, only about 200 repairs per annum are done nowadays. However, cleft patients now receive specialised treatment other than surgery, including proper bottle feeding techniques, orthodontic treatment, and speech therapy.
Our full-time Speech Therapist, Samnang, works closely with patients of all ages as well as their family members to ensure long-term health including speech development and correction. Having received training and certification in Taiwan and from visiting specialists from the UK, Samnang is also educated in child psychology. Between appointments, he uses his office as a playroom for young inpatients in order to stimulate creativity and development.
